'The Descendants'
I went to see 'The Descendants' this evening. George Clooney plays an out of touch, workaholic husband and father, who must come face to face with the reality of a failed marriage and 2 hurting , rebellious children when his wife becomes comatose after a boating accident. It all takes place in Hawaii, and if the scenery isn't beautiful enough, we get to bask in the gorgeousness (is that a word?) of Mr. Clooney himself, those doe-eyes revealing all the emotions of a man forced to face the contempt of a teenage daughter , and the disrespectful acting out of a 7 year old, both of whom have suffered greatly due to an absent father and a mother who decided to live life to the full despite a husband who doesn't even know she exists. The language used by the children is both shocking and believable, and as the story unfolds, it is heartwarming to see the bond that forms between the teenage daughter as she helps her father fight to retain his dignity in the face of hurt and rejection. Some great life lessons to be learned, but do be prepared for some colorful language along with them!
